species history
The history of Canterwit as we know today starts many, many years ago, with hundreds upon thousands of Canterwit happily living life to their heart's content - spending day in day out growing flowers wherever they went, decorating the lands of Anther far and wide. They knew their talent well - that joy and laughter fund their magical abilities, and so none of them ever dreamed of leaving the realm which ensured their protection with its unshakable magical energy from its inhabitants.
Across generation after generation, more and more plants and flowers spread through the realm, of all shapes, sizes and colours. The Canter encountered a problem they never thought they would imagine: they were running out of space to perform their magic. Because of the wonders of their realm, plant life and flowers do not wilt and die. This was becoming a problem for many, with no bare land, they couldn't grow any more flowers in order to maintain the harmonious balance of their home. It was debated and argued over whether or not the flowers planted through the ages should be removed - but given their culture and history, the royals could not see it fit in doing so. They had decided it would be a last resort. Seeking an alternative option, they summoned the greatest four travellers and wizards in the realm to go out and find another place for them to grow their flowers.
These wizards were well-liked locals, admired for their dedication to adventure and lively personalities. The four were named Alder, Del, Wren and Rose. Alder was a 'leader' type - he was bold and forward, but incredibly kind and very smart. Del was a spunky down-to-earth troublemaker who loved testing his physical strength. Rose was what many would call the most beautiful Canterwit in the realm, she was even lucky enough to be blessed with an incredibly rare unicorn horn. And finally, Wren was meek and shy - but his knowledge for herbal medicine was master level. They were each more than happy to accept the royals' proposal to discover a new place to grow their flowers.
With magic, they travelled across the galaxy, dancing across the milky way, settling upon many different planets to practise their flower magic - but none of the ones they had settled on were suitable enough to sustain it. They felt like giving up and going home, until they discovered a planet that looked all too similar to their home world. In it, they saw bright green foliage, crystal clear blue waters, and above all - they saw life! They decided it would be the perfect place to try and use their magic. The four of them settled, decorating the bare green hills and plains with colourful flowers. Their flowers survived! They felt the same radiance and energy as they did in their home realm, which made the four of them confident that they had found the right place.
The four travellers reported back to the royals in the Canter realm and described this new and wonderful place which had just the right temperature and climate to support their magic, even with interesting two-legged creatures inhabiting it. The royals were relieved, it appeared that their realm's floral history could be spared. But there was a minor problem - not a single Canter thought it would be a good idea to abandon their realm in exchange for this new place, no matter how much potential it may have.
They sat on the idea for a while, until the travellers proposed an idea: They spend half a year in their home realm, then half a year on the new planet. They'd be perfectly able to divide their time and take turns with their peers, and ensure that the second half of the year was spent revelling in uplifting festivities to keep the magic fresh and strong for when they need to expel it.
In honour of this new foundation, four houses were created symbolising each of the traveller Canterwit's gifted abilities as a motivator for everyone to join together for some friendly festivities and competitions between the seasons of what is known as Autumn and Winter on planet earth, while they prepare their magic for the migration in Spring. Named after each traveller, these houses were to be named Alderley, Delamere, Rostherne and Wrenbury.
In present day, Canterwit still stick to this tradition, and even though the four original travellers have passed, four apprentices stand in their place as they will from generation after generation. The realm is balanced and harmonious, and magic can be practised freely.
